Yes. A timber car port can carry a living sedum roof, as long as the structure is built for the extra weight. Sedum & Sage offer their hand-built Heritage car ports with an optional green roof, and supply a simple three-layer system for buildings you already own: a fleece underlay and a drainage layer, topped with 50 by 50cm trays of sedum pre-grown on their family farm in Lincolnshire.

How much does a car port with a sedum roof cost?
At Sedum & Sage, hand-built Heritage timber car ports start from £2,999 for a single bay and £6,999 for a double bay, with a felt roof as standard. A living sedum roof is an optional upgrade, priced to the size of your roof. Their pre-grown sedum trays are £5.99 each, and they’ll work out exactly how many you need from your roof’s dimensions.

Do I need planning permission for a car port?
Often not. Many car ports fall under permitted development, but it depends on where the car port goes and how big it is. Rules are stricter for structures in front of your house, close to a boundary or above certain heights, and for listed buildings or homes in conservation areas. Always check with your local planning authority before you build.
